1 Samuel 24-26
As near as I can tell bitterness comes from a place of unfulfilled promises. They aren't dreams, for we have those aplenty unfulfilled and it doesn't hurt very much.
A dream come true is an expression of utter joy. A dream left in dreamland is an expression of hope, but not despair.
A promise an entirely different thing.
