"Street Beef" - Hotel TV's

The inaugural Street Beef deals with hotel televisions.  Whether on business or with my family, I'm in hotel rooms 15 to 20 nights a year.  When I'm cruising the hotel booking web-sites for potential resting spots, I check the amenities list to see what they've got.  Invariably, the newer or freshened up hotels tout the presence of a flat screen television.  It's not a deal breaker for me, but if you're going to mention it then....for goodness sake...have some HD channels!  If you're going to cheap out and only offer the standard definition channels, then you might as well have saved the money, provided me with a tube TV and used the money saved to put more front desk staff on during the busy check in period.  Yes, I'm talking to you, unnamed landmark hotel in downtown Toronto!

The better, modern flat screen TV is not going to make the low res analogue signal look better, it will actually make it look worse, like a grainy YouTube video.

Surprisingly, the one hotel I have stayed in recently that DID have high def channels, was a cheap $50.00 per night family run hotel in suburban Cleveland.  Probably the last place I would have expected to find premium HD channel offerings.  And, because of that, it represents good value to me and I will stay there again.

Ahh, I feel better now!
