The Wonder of the River

Cottonwood Campsite in Horsethief Canyon
Wow. The summer is quickly coming to a close and I am so proud of the amazing trips that Moab staff and volunteers put on this year. It was certainly a whirlwind, but as I reflect on our season I feel an overwhelming sense of joy. Although the river was low and the days were hot (hottest July in recorded history) we were able to take people from all walks of life through beautiful wilderness and create lifelong memories not only for our participants but also ourselves.

I personally will never forget the beautiful mid morning hymns sung by the 8th grade girls of Madeline Choir School, the quirky fishing techniques that the Logan River Academy boys utilized when there wasn’t a pole or line to be had, the humility that the young adults of Utah Youth Mentor Project bestowed upon all of us, and the righteous laughter and love that was shared on the FA trip.
Splore is truly something special made possible by all of those that dedicate their time and energy into making these trips happen. I would like to thank all of our volunteers, staff, friends, and family for helping to keep this wonderful organization afloat. Without all of you, our participants may never know the wonder of the river and the thrill of the rock.

Becky is Splore's River Manager. She lives in Moab where she is able to perfect her Frisbee golf game, wear flip-flops 90% of the time and play with her landlady's chickens.
