Performing Test Recordings

Running some basic test recordings before making and recording an actual call/video call is important to make sure that your Skype and recorder is working, so your conversations will be properly recorded.

It is advisable to run test recordings before recording an important video call.  You can also perform test recordings in cases such as after a Skype update, installing a new program in your computer, updating components in your computer, updating your operating system and other programs in your computer, installing a new version of Supertintin, and other similar cases.

Testing Audio Calls Recording

Skype is offering a free Call (Audio) testing service, where users can check if their microphone and headset (speakers) are working.  By default, this audio call is already added to users' contact list and appear as Echo/Sound Testing Service.

If for some reason this call testing service doesn't appear in your Skype account, you can manually add it by entering the username "echo123" in the Search/Add a Contact window of Skype.

1. To test if your Supertintin recorder can detect and record the audio portion of your call, Open Skype then Supertintin, then click the "Call Me" icon below.   If your recording is not set to start recording automatically, click the "record" button in the Supertintin window once the call is connected to begin recording the audio call test recording.

2. After the call ends, open the recorded file.  If you will be able to hear the recording of the automated voice and the recording of your own voice, then that means that your recording is working in terms of recording Skype Audio Calls.

II. Testing Video Calls Recording

Supertintin is offering a free Skype video testing service.  Supertintin customers and other users who want to perform a video call test can video call this account.

1. To test if your recording can detect and recording the video and audio portion of a Skype video call, open Skype and Supertintin.  Then click the "Call Me" button below.  If your recorder is not set to automatically start recording video calls, click the "record" button in the Supertintin window once the video call is connected.

2. Then click the "Turn On Video" icon to activate your own video.

3. Once both the remote cam (other party) and the locam cam (your own video image) appears, check the "Active Streams in Skype" box in the Supertintin window.  In a standard one-on-one video call, there should be 2 audio streams, 1 remote cam, and 1 local cam detected.  If those numbers appear, then that means that Supertintin can detect and record the corresponding audio and video streams/part of your Skype video call.

Depending on factors such as internet connection speed and quality, workload and computer specifications, overall traffic in Skype, etc, it may take from a couple of seconds up to a few minutes before all the audio and video streams are detected by your recorder.

 4.  Then open the recorded file to see if both the local cam and the remote cam are properly recorded.  If the remote or local cam doesn't immediately appear, try to fast forward to different portions of the recordings.  As explained above, there are times that it takes a short while before Supertintin detects the audio and call streams, so there may be also times that it will take a couple of seconds up to a few minutes before both videos/webcam images appear in the recording.

You can also add the Supertintin Skype video recorder video testing service to your contact list, so you can easily and directly call us in the future.  Just enter username stt_bob in the Search/Add a Contact window in Skype.  As contract requests are manually approve, it may take a few days before your contact request is accepted.
