Back during the first weekend in November, we found a new place to live. After having met with our loan officer the night before, when he told us about the "rural housing" program, we took a trip out to Saratoga Springs to see what we could find. We had a difficult time navigating the town at first, because so many streets were too new for Google to keep up with ... but stumbled on one of the three places we were planning to visit that morning.
We met Quinn in a Town Home development and asked to take a look at the model home. He ended up showing us about three different models (all were three different sizes - small, medium, large) and told us about all the different materials and finishes we could have our pick from. There was a new building that was going to begin construction the following week, in which the units would be on the market in two days. We felt very good about that location as we left to continue visiting some other more widely-recognized developments (i.e. Garbett Homes and Daybreak).
The Garbett homes were OK - we really liked the energy efficiencies, and I loved the overall contemporary styling, but they were tiny. No yard to yourself, either. By the time we went over to Daybreak Leila was pretty beat ... so we went back home. That night, we had three different existing homes we were going to visit with our realtor, Brett Talbot from Zip Realty in Midvale. None of the three homes we saw measured up to the town home we had visited earlier that day. We decided we were going to get signed up for a new unit out in Saratoga Springs.
As Quinn had told us, construction began that following week. Leila and I have been out to the site every Saturday since the beginning, and have documented the progress on our new home. Here are some pictures so far of how it's been coming along.
